Evaluation 04

Brain Fog & Post-Illness Cognitive Evaluation

Brain fog is measurable. Here it is measured.

Following long COVID, autoimmune disease, chemotherapy, concussion, chronic pain, sleep disorders, or the perimenopausal transition, testing identifies which cognitive systems are affected and how severely. Naming the change precisely is what makes it treatable, and what makes it credible to an employer, a physician, or an insurer.

Who this is for

This evaluation fits

  • 01Adults whose thinking changed after an illness and has not returned
  • 02Patients navigating long COVID, autoimmune disease, or chemotherapy recovery
  • 03Professionals who need documentation for work accommodations or leave
  • 04Anyone whose bloodwork and imaging came back unremarkable

Common reasons people come

What brings people here

Words that will not surface

Losing the thread mid-task

Reading takes twice as long

Exhaustion after mental effort

An employer requires documentation

An insurer requires objective data

What the evaluation includes

Measured, not estimated

Each area below is assessed with validated, age-normed measures and interpreted together rather than in isolation.

01Processing speed
02Working memory
03Sustained attention
04Word retrieval
05Divided attention
06Cognitive fatigue
07Learning efficiency
08Mood
09Effort validity
01

Illness and symptom timeline

What changed, when it changed, and how it has moved since — mapped carefully.

02

Speed and efficiency measures

The systems most often affected after illness are tested directly and precisely.

03

Cognitive fatigue assessment

Performance measured early and late in testing, because decline over time is often the finding.

04

Functional translation

Scores connected to the specific tasks that have become difficult at work and at home.

Expected timeline

From first call to feedback

A small number of evaluations are scheduled each month, so each stage receives the hours it requires.

  1. Consultation

    15 minutes

A short call about the illness and what changed after it.

    Step 1 of 5
  2. Interview

    Week 1

Medical timeline, current symptoms, sleep, mood, and demands.

    Step 2 of 5
  3. Testing

    Week 1–2

Four to six hours of measures, paced to capture fatigue rather than mask it.

    Step 3 of 5
  4. Interpretation

    Week 2–3

    Pattern analysis and report writing.

    Step 4 of 5
  5. Feedback

    Week 3

What is affected, by how much, and what supports recovery.

    Step 5 of 5

What patients receive

What you leave with

01

Objective documentation

Measured evidence of the change, in a form employers, physicians, and insurers accept.

02

A precise profile

Which systems are affected and which are intact, rather than a single global impression.

03

Cognitive rehabilitation guidance

Pacing, compensation, and evidence-based strategies matched to your specific profile.

04

A retest baseline

Scores that let recovery be tracked rather than guessed at.

Frequently asked

Questions people ask first

My other tests were all normal. Will this show anything?

Often, yes. Bloodwork and imaging examine structure and physiology; cognitive testing examines function. Changes invisible on a scan are frequently measurable on testing.

Will this help with a disability or accommodation claim?

The report provides the objective, normed data these processes require. It documents function honestly; it does not advocate for a predetermined conclusion.

Is brain fog permanent?

Frequently not. Many post-illness profiles improve substantially, particularly with pacing, sleep, and targeted strategy. The testing establishes where you are starting from.

What if I am too fatigued for a long session?

Testing is scheduled across shorter sessions when needed. Fatigue is accommodated and also measured, because it is part of the clinical picture.
