Evaluation 02
Psychological Evaluation
Comprehensive assessment of emotional and psychological functioning, for diagnostic clarification and individualized recommendations.
A thorough assessment of psychological functioning for adults who need diagnostic clarification or a clearer understanding of emotional, behavioral, or personality-related concerns. The evaluation draws on a comprehensive clinical interview, a detailed review of history and relevant records, and standardized psychological and personality measures selected for the referral question. It does not include cognitive or neuropsychological testing, and it is an evaluation rather than psychotherapy. Conducted virtually for eligible adults in New York, Alabama, and participating PSYPACT states.

What the evaluation includes
Measured, not estimated
Assessment measures are selected according to the referral question and clinical need, and are interpreted alongside interview and history rather than in isolation. Cognitive and neuropsychological testing are not part of this evaluation; when a cognitive question arises, a neuropsychological evaluation is discussed instead.

History and records review

Frequently asked
Questions people ask first
Does this include cognitive or neuropsychological testing?
No. A psychological evaluation assesses emotional, behavioral, and personality functioning. If memory, attention, or other cognitive questions are central, a neuropsychological / cognitive evaluation is the better fit, and that is discussed at the consultation.
Will I receive a diagnosis?
Not necessarily. Some evaluations clarify a diagnosis; others rule one out or describe a pattern that does not meet diagnostic criteria. Either way, you receive a clear formulation and recommendations.
Is this therapy?
No. A psychological evaluation is a defined assessment with a written report. It can inform therapy or medication decisions, but it is not treatment itself.
Which tests will be used?
Measures are chosen according to the referral question and clinical needs rather than a fixed battery.
How long does it take?
The written report is typically available within one to two weeks after the evaluation is completed. This refers to report turnaround once the evaluation is finished, not the full process from first inquiry; scheduling is confirmed at your consultation.
